Every Last Child – May 17th
On Sunday, May 17th, 2015 at the Emerson Cultural Center, the Bozeman Doc Series and the Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Club presented the Montana premiere of the critically acclaimed documentary Every Last Child.
In 2012, polio persisted in only three countries and the number of victims was steadily decreasing. Pakistan was the key – with over 80% of all endemic cases. However, when the Pakistan Taliban issued a ban against the polio vaccination program, and incited fatal attacks against vaccinators, Pakistan’s vaccination campaign was thrown into disarray.
Now, families and healthcare workers find themselves in the crosshairs of politics and bloodshed as they attempt to protect their children from polio. Once at the brink of eradication, the disease is again a global threat with Pakistan at the center of the spread.
Every Last Child examines the fight to eradicate polio through the stories of five powerful characters – a medical specialist, a vaccinator, a cynic, an adult polio victim and a sick child.
An intense and moving documentary, Every Last Child paints an intricate portrait of the desperate battle to put an end to this devastating disease.
“Provocative and hard-hitting, Every Last Child is a chilling reminder that even diseases once thought eradicated are still capable of rearing their ugly heads as a result of ignorance and prejudice.” The Hollywood Reporter
A percentage of the proceeds from the screening will benefit Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign, and will be matched two-for-one by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
